WELCOME

. . . to a World of Opportunity

Learn how to use a computer, practice yoga or make a patchwork quilt. Sing or express yourself in writing. Spend some time doing something you enjoy with others who share your interest. Morning, afternoon and evening activities and courses are offered by the house most days of the week. Or maybe you could make use of the computer hire, fax, photocopying, typing or Web site hosting facilities at the house.

Have a look at what's available - you may be surprised! And if there is something you would like to see happen at the house, please let Irene (our coordinator) know about it.

Keep in touch with what's happening at your Community House.

History

The Briagolong Community House (BCH) was established in 1992.

Initially meetings were held at the Mechanics' Institute Hall and some programs were conducted at the local primary school.

The Maffra Shire Council soon provided funding for the rental of a privately owned house in Cahill Street where it operated until 1999. The BCH was situated there until August 1999 when it moved to a purpose built extension to the Mechanics' Institute Hall.

The BCH Committee of Management, together with the Mechanics' Institute Hall Committee and the Wellington Shire Council worked towards building a shire/community owned building which was realized as a purpose built extension to the Mechanics' Institute Hall. Funding for the project was provided for jointly by the Wellington Shire Council and Develop Victoria.

This great new facility, officially opened on the 5th October 1999, has recaptured the spirit of the Mechanics' Institute Hall as a seat of learning.
